I got a little caught up in the internet, late this afternoon. I started reading profiles of foster kids in IL and couldn't quit. Attached to the profiles is a "disability dictionary", where they define terms that might be used in describing the kids. (Though they don't seem to include the local foster-care-speak terms. I figured out "IEP", but "PPLA"? Anyone?) I kept clicking through kid after kid after kid, imagining where they were at the moment, wondering what things were not being said and remembering stuff from my old job (working with kids like these). Finally I came across a term ("reactive attachment disorder") I didn't know; I looked up the definition, read it, thought it was sketchy, and decided to read over some of the terms I *did* know to see if they sounded correct to me or not. After a couple minutes of doing this I went back to the profiles and found (to my relief) that I didn't have to read any more before I went home. Emotional-brain had clicked off and research-brain had clicked on. What an odd feeling.
Other "clicked-off" areas include the knitting-brain and the writing-brain. No, I'm not knitting anything substantial at the moment. Yes, I know we're in the Knitting Olympics. It's a long story. I'll explain later.
