Putting 2006 to bed
Jan. 5th, 2007 05:45 pm(stretches) Ahh, it was a lovely internet break. I got some stuff DONE over the holidays, man, let me tell you. Not always the stuff I meant to do, mind you, but stuff nonetheless.
On New Year's Eve, I always get a little panic about properly documenting the year that is closing and preparing for the year to come. I asked Elwood at one point, "But what did we get DONE?" He sensibly replied:
"You got pregnant.
I got a job.
The Democrats won back the legislative branch."
Oh. Looking at it like that, I guess it was a pretty good year.
So, on to the yarn accounting:
( THIS WINTER'S GIFTS )
There is one more project left to knit, I admit. It's almost done but it turned out to be a little more ambitious than I'd originally intended. It might even get treated to a professional photography session before it wings off to its recipient. The object and I are both pretty excited about that.
I'm paring down my 'net time quite a bit; I pruned the RSS feed pretty severely, and will probably do the same for my LJ friends list over the next week or two. Blog maintenence is still on hold until further notice. I'll update those links soon, I promise.
Okay? On to the new year!

Why can't I just get paid to knit??
Oct. 21st, 2005 09:50 amWork this week is testing my sanity--not because it's difficult or terrible, it's just that I'm not feeling all that sane. Sticks and string are the things I need. And since it's on my brain today, here's an inventory of recent (and not so recent) FOs.

The Blue Water Shawl, which was a ridiculously easy vacation project that I'm now wearing like a security blanket. I actually finished this in early September but I put it away and saved it as my reward for getting those cussed wisdom teeth out.

A soon-to-be-felted Christmas stocking! It's a present for somebody, I'm not telling who. I love felting things mostly because the original garment is so oversized and funny. This guy will have a few felty friends before I'm finished this year.

MORE CRACK BOOTIES! Thank heavens for all these breeding friends of mine. This is a colorway called "Seaside," but I realized halfway through just how military the colors are, and how inappropriate for a young baby. I'm sick to death of the plain pink and blue, however, so I sent them anyway. Then I started tweaking that pattern for other uses...

This is the gym bag; it's got room for my Humbug and my ID card, and that's it. Before the gas leak debacle, I used to trot out the front door with nothing but my keys and my music player, and we would drive home from the gym all sweaty so that we wouldn't have to wear flipflops in the shower. Now, it's gotten colder and I have graduated to a larger bag. But I love this magic double knitting now, and want to use it for all sorts of things besides baby booties. I also made my mother a bag for her cell phone with the same yarn.

Wasn't I just complaining about pink and blue socks? But on me, they're more exciting! This has been my traveling project for the last year or so, and I finally finished them during the ALCS. (See? Sox socks!) There will also be a pair of World Series socks made--still not white socks, because how boring is that?--but I've made a firm vow to only work on those during actual game time and see how much I can get done. I'm also cheating and using a thicker yarn, so they'll knit up faster. I might swatch them early, though, because I'd hate to be running out to the store for more dpns and miss a tense inning.
mimazu and Bonne Marie are both taking part in Socktoberfest, but I didn't sign up in time so I'm just a bystander. I have been blog-knitting for two years now and have yet to take part in a knitalong; perhaps I'm oldfashioned. Or underachieving.
On deck at the moment: Sox socks. Rogue sweater. Another stocking to go with Greenie. And more baby booties, if any of those players get on base.
Whew. Back to work.
