Today in Bonzo
Mar. 5th, 2008 04:15 pmBonzo loves suppertime. We eat together as a family, and lately our little bug gets extremely upset if he doesn't have a spoon and dish just like the parents do. He is not that wild about the food on the spoon yet, but he does love the spoon itself! We take turns feeding him bites of carrots, applesauce, squash, prunes, and "garden vegetables" (mostly spinach), which is a surprising favorite.
After the spoon-food is gone, sometimes he will get tiny bites of things off our plates to taste/play with. He waved around a raw asparagus spear like a baton, but every time he put the cut end in his mouth it made his face scrunch up. He was fascinated by a little piece of cooked broccoflower, and pinched off all the little florets from the stem, although he didn't put any in his mouth. (When he dropped it I whisked that one away, as I was suddenly sure he was going to choke on it.) His clear favorite play food, however, is bread. I gave him a pinch of squishy Balkan bread from the local market, and he thought it was the best thing to touch since the cat. He squished it over and over and over between his fingers, put it into his mouth to lick, and then brought it back out to play with--now extra gooey! The feel and taste of it made him giggle for several minutes straight.
I've been trying to follow Moxie's advice on parenting and just having a conversation with this kid. When he's not around, all the goofy Very Important Details come flooding back into my brain, so work is kind of a challenge. But playing with him is spectacular. He's a very mellow kid, also round and cute. He will do good things to my blood pressure if only I will let him.
