Yesterday Bonzo turned eight months! He celebrated by finally putting a Cheerio in his mouth. He wasn't that thrilled, and gave it a puzzled face before it melted, but this was a big moment for his mama, who has been watching him chase Cheerios around on his high chair tray for the last couple weeks. We've been big on the "let's eat together" theme this month. We have squash for dinner? Bonzo has squash for dinner! I have Cheerios for breakfast? Bonzo has Cheerios for breakfast! It's still an every-other-day thing, however. We are going slow on food.

Last Tuesday (2/5/08) Bonzo cut his second tooth, the right front lower tooth. His daddy says he is working on a third tooth, next to the tall one. He sits up like a champ now and has got the hang of catching his balance when he starts to go over, though there are still a few spectacular thumps every now and then. He would still rather eat a book than read it, but we've had some success in acting out stories using stuffed animals. He's also quick to wail when we take away something he wants, and slower to forget it than he used to be. I suppose it's a measure of how much he trusts us that he assumes we can produce anything or provide him with anything he wants and needs. When we can't, or won't, he's baffled and then angry.

I'm nursing him less at baby school now. This makes us both a little sad. He also moves into a big boy car seat this week! No more "rocketship" from place to place; we will unstrap him and take him out of the seat when we go somewhere, even if it's just an errand. (The logistics of this have not fully sunk in yet.) Hopefully he will get even more out of the grocery store when he's sitting and interacting. We also have to get the hang of the Ergo-as-baby-backpack. I wish it was a little warmer when we made this switch, but he's just gotten far too large for the little one. A few weeks ago at the doctor he was 26 1/2" and about 18 1/2 lbs.

He sleeps in his crib for the first part of the night every night now, and is working on unswaddling (slowly). He slept seven hours at a stretch on Friday night! (Sadly, he does not yet care to do this on weeknights.)

I love my little boy.
