Gram is out of surgery, and she will probably live. The doctors did a quintuple bypass, and used some odd sub-clavicle artery, since they ran out of femoral artery, for the replacements. (Medically, I'm sure it was an interesting procedure. For us, it was just scary. Like being out of parts in space.) She is awake and talking, and still happy from all the drugs. By the time I get there, she will probably be in pain again. So I suppose there's no reason to hurry.

Family visit yesterday was lovely. The Cubs' fifth inning was fantabulous. I am so lucky to get to hear that in real time.

Today we re-installed the air conditioner, did gobs of gardening, and got ready for the week. It was the first day of the year that I wore shorts comfortably. It always amazes me in the midwinter to think that at some point I will walk down the same sidewalks with my legs bare and my hair up and nothing covering my head. It seemed just as bizarre tonight to think of myself all bundled up. Yet it happens, over and over again, in the space of a few short months.
