I just finished watching an amazing thunderstorm from my back porch. It got pitch-black outside, rain flew sideways, trees whipped back and forth and the parsley in the garden flattened out. The squirrel that lives under the sun deck panicked and a couple robins took refuge under the rhubarb. It was all over in about forty minutes. I lit some candles in the upstairs, rather than turning on the lights, for the end of the storm.

(breaks to take a phone call)
***********
My grandmother is having a heart attack. They are med-flighting her from Grady to Riverside so that she can get treated in the cath lab. However, I was on the phone with my mother (and assorted family members) for almost half an hour before she actually left. (Wouldn't it be quicker to take her in an ambulance? Or has the traffic really gotten that bad on 315?) Mom wanted me to stay on the phone so I could hear the helicopter take off. It's so strange, the things we do to stay in touch with each other these days.
I spent the phone call outside, weeding the garden. The sun is shining and it's suddenly blazing hot again. How strange.
