The return
Aug. 3rd, 2004 11:00 amActually, I've been back in the country since Saturday night, but have mostly continued my internet hiatus due to errands, moving, and such. For all of you who will ask: Ireland was WONDERFUL, fascinating, and tiring, and I am really glad to be home. For some reason, I felt more relief when landing at JFK on Saturday than I did when walking through our front door on Sunday afternoon. "Being home" for me now seems to encompass the entire eastern third of the country. Go figure.
One of the nice things about traveling westward is that it sets one's internal clock earlier than usual. For the last three days it has not been painful to wake up at 7 am. I am relishing this and trying to keep up the illusion for as long as posisble.
The packing and moving process is still painfully slow, and as of last night we have still not slept in the new house. The cats have been there for four days now and seem to enjoy the space (and the stairs!) but they are royally pissed every night when we leave and turn off all the lights. There is no internet capactity at either house right now, and for some reason, my work computer won't let me access Gmail. The administration must somehow be blocking it, though it would be much more effective if they would block LJ.
I tried to find yarn in Ireland, but only managed to find one large fabric/craft chain store in Dublin. Though they insisted on calling it "knitting wool," most of the stock was megaskeins of squeaky acrylic. I did find a flyer for a knit in public event in Dublin, though. It was also held on Tuesdays from 7-9 pm at a local coffee shop. I guess Tuesday night is stitch and bitch night all over the world...
