I just bought tickets for this evening. Wahoo... I'll be exhausted tomorrow, but I will have the joy of telling all my students that I already saw the movie and giving them my review just a few hours later. Then they'll stare at me in wonder and I'll get my "mwa-ha-ha, I'm the grownup and I can do what I want" rush. I already pulled that once this week--class was over earlier than expected and they were giving me trouble, so I just told them I was finished and they went back to their math worksheets while I waltzed out into the sunshine. Yes, kids, that's what you can do when you get an education. You can design your own schedule and if you do your job well enough, you can take breaks and stay up late to see Harry Potter.

Work has been excellent this week. I have one class that is throwing me all sorts of difficult questions, which I really enjoy as long as I'm not being observed. (Questions like, "Is masturbation okay?" and "What is a 'cunt'?") Sometimes these questions are staged and just to make people laugh, but this group seems really cohesive and they just soak up information. They will be those dangerous neighbors or older siblings who disseminate accurate information and make parents quake in their boots.

Also, I had the joy of going out to the 'burbs to talk to an MRDD couple about birth control and sexual negotiation. They had known each other forever and just begun to have a sexual relationship, and so both of them and their case workers got together with me and we had a little question and answer session. It was so uplifting to talk with them step by step and help them work out all those little mysteries: how do you know when your partner is ready to have sex with you? Where is a good place to have sex? Where is a bad place to have sex? Who is responsible for birth control? (They both had a method to use.) Should we worry about sexually transmitted disease? How do I reach my doctor if I have questions about sex? In one short hour, they were way more prepared than most unimpaired couples who are starting a sexual relationship. I wish everyone would be this open.

Time to nap before the movie.
