Well, the car is found, or something car-shaped with my license tags on it was found, on Sunday. I didn't find this out until this afternoon, when a detective from the arson division called me with some questions. He says it's not salvageable. (He did have some amusing questions about the work materials in the trunk, however. Hee.) Apparently it was involved in a fire, and that's why it's not really a car anymore. It's nice to know where it is, and that no one else is driving it. Arson detective-man said that the hood, the front bumper, and one of the side panels were removed. That's funny to me, and strange, since all those parts were dented anyway and really it was the back that was in great shape.

We went to an Auto Pound tonight to release it to the insurance company and take a look, but they wouldn't let me see it. Apparently the VIN on the dash is obliterated, and they need to get a cop to come check the VIN on the engine block to confirm that it's my car. I also can't release it to the insurance co until this happens, which means we can't work on getting me any money. Said cop is not on any kind of schedule, but if he comes by it will be between 6 and 8 am, so I should call every day and see if we can release it yet. GROAN! I got freaky for a minute and thought that maybe someone had just switched my tags and my car was out there lost. But then C reminded me that the detective knew about my work stuff and who else's car could it be? I am relieved to at least know where it is. I really wanted to look at the car. However, if it's in really bad shape it might be best not to know.

At least I can stop peering at all the cars in the oncoming traffic, looking for my dented hood.

And, for my coworkers who are REALLY behind the curve, I can tell them exactly what happened to the car. (Once again today, I was met by someone who should have gotten the news who said to me, "Are you sure it wasn't just towed?" YES. I. AM. SURE. AND. NOW. I. CAN. PROVE. IT.)

In other news? Contract is accepted for the new condo! Negotiation, preparation, and financial hemorrhage can now proceed apace. I spoke today to a very cool lawyer named Betsy, and feel better about getting all our ducks in a row on time. Now it's time to go do some paperwork on all this, and soon it will be time to plan the packing and moving parties!!

(Comments enabled so we can all squee about the house together! I really don't want to talk about the car any more right now, though. Maybe on the next post.)
