I recognized her voice first. Since work designates Fridays to be "summer hours" days, I had arrived at Loopy a little before 2 pm. Not wanting to seem to eager, I made a polite cruise of the full-priced yarns before heading over to the sale shelf. (Yarn priced at ONE DOLLAR PER BALL: Knitters, if you skip the rest of this story and leave now, I'll understand.) I had knelt down to study the colors on a bunch of Eponge Bermudes, whatever that was, and noticed that I was in someone else's way. After two or three moments, I waved her closer to the sale shelf and said, "Don't be shy," without taking my eyes off the yarn. "Oh my goodness, it's you!" she exclaimed. So familiar, that voice... I looked up at a smartly dressed young woman, and slowly her features resolved into someone familiar, out of context, then--my friend
mimazu! Ha! A dear yarn buddy at exactly the right place in exactly the right time! What does it say to you about how much time we spend in yarn stores, to run into one another randomly like this during work hours?
Anyway, she bought yarn, I bought yarn. (cough) Quite a bit of yarn. We chattered, compared project plans, went out for coffee afterwards. It was a lovely little knitting date in the middle of a hot afternoon. I was so tickled! This serendipity also took me quite nicely out of the dreary unfunded world of my workplace and into my peppy weekend mode. And no, the new Interweave Knits STILL has not arrived, but I don't even mind. It gives me more time to go hide my new stash. Hopefully, I'm even peppy enough to pick up the house a little?
