I got to see my Dad today. He had a 2 hour layover at the airport.

He found me on the escalator at Midway--he was headed down, I was headed up. I was really glad he found me, since I've never liked searching for him in airports.

We slammed down some SuperDawgs that he brought out from the gate and hung out in the baggage claim seating, since there's not really any commerce in the public area of the airport.

He talked about his friends and his S.O. I talked about my knitting. We geeked out for a couple minutes on the latest electronic toys. He recommends a ridiculously expensive monthly subscription to a little laptop plug that will give you the equivalent of a T1 line just about anywhere. And then it was time for him to go.

I watched him all the way down the security line, until he got through and turned to leave for his gate. He looks good, really healthy and strong on this trip. I always worry that I won't recognize him, since it's usually several months in between visits. (That's a ridiculous worry; even with his different clothes/different weight/different hair color, I always can spot him.) But this time it happened in reverse; he was so clear, and then he got smaller and smaller until he crossed the bridge, until the back of his head looked like everyone else's and I could only spot him by his shirt, and then I blinked and he was gone.

If you're reading this, Dad, it was really good to see you today. And I liked the shirt.
