Good news for knitters
Dec. 1st, 2005 08:55 amSmall scissors are once again allowed on planes! The new regulation applies to scissors with points that are four inches long or less, and screwdrivers, wrenches, and other tools that are seven inches long or less.
That last bit surprises me--I don't think screening now is any better than it used to be. I say this because of the times (more than twice) that I've flown since 9/11 and gotten to my gate before I realized that my keys (and pocket knife!) were still at the bottom of my bag. Perhaps they looked at me and realized I wasn't a safety threat. Or perhaps there's just not that much harm you can do with a pocket knife that's one inch long.
"They said the relaxation of the rules, reported Tuesday by The Washington Post, is possible because of improvements made since September 2001, including more secure cockpit doors, an increase in the number of air marshals flying on flights and, most important, improvements in screening of passengers and checked luggage."
